The First Evidence
I think we function on evidence. That if we can remember we did something before, we know we can do it again.
But then, how do we justify doing something for the first time? What's the criteria?
If you have an ocean ahead of you, and all the utilities to build a ship and set sail, it becomes a burden. But if you have a small pond, a few planks of wood, and you know how to swim, it becomes fun.
The first guy who took his dinghy out into the ocean probably died. It was the guy who first crossed the river with it, who had a story to tell.
Whatever stops us, we need to first seek out the ponds and rivers.
It's part of the friction inside us that we stop at the dead end, instead of hopping over it. We can observe ourselves to know we do not need coercion or flattery, we need permission. Permission to make a mess. To fail. To fail so badly we'll want to try all over again.
Let's give each other that permission. After all we're all waiting for it.
