Enslaved Integrity
For communication to happen, the involved parties need to be at a certain "wavelength". If I try to put forth my being in front of someone who is at a totally different wavelength, either he will conclude I'm "not his type" or something. Or I'll have to compromise on what I actually wanted to say. I find that done the second part repeatedly enough, my compromised self will become the new normal.
There is a matter of physical security here. That one probably won't care about speaking the truth to their Boss as much as one would about keeping him happy. More freedom with co-workers, more with friends and family. That even if your friend is upset with you, your livelihood isn't at risk. I think this might be one of the big reasons why "work isn't always enjoyable. Because physical security is tied to being someone who a few specific people must approve of.
Both ways, either where you really are trying to "force" communicate with someone at an entirely different wavelength, or where you have to do so to ensure survival, both are a form of slavery. While some wisdom and grit might help with the first one, the second one will probably be taken care of by A.I. automatically. That when there isn't work left for everyone on the planet, either the current concept of money will have to go, or people's lives.
